Farm & rural fencing

A wise farmer once said: “Good fences aren’t cheap, but cheap fences aren’t good.” And let’s not forget – good fences make good neighbours!

A farm fence is a long-term investment in your property, and as such should be designed for its intended purpose and built to last.

That means using the right materials based on your desired aesthetics and purpose, whether you are looking to contain livestock, exclude pest animals or simply mark your property boundaries.

At Reynolds Rural Contracting we pride ourselves on a quality, sturdy fence construction that will stand the test of time. For us, that means choosing the best quality fencing materials and not rushing to ‘get it done’. We take our time to do the job properly and ensure you are happy with the end result.

There are two main types of rural fences: post and wire, and post and rail. Find out more about their features and uses below.

Post and wire fences

Woven wire (commonly called ringlock or hinge joint) is regularly used for containing a variety of livestock. Because they feature a grid of vertical and horizontal wires, with a knot at the intersections, they are very strong and also provide excellent flex. This helps prevent breakages as it is able to withstand impact from large animals.

The wire available in Australia is of very high quality and consistency and provides a long lasting and strong fence around the farm. Woven wire fencing is stronger than many other fencing options like a plain and barbed wire fence. Woven wire fencing remains strong and durable even in challenging terrain and difficult environmental conditions.

When combined with plain wires it becomes a very strong barrier for keeping livestock in. For example, the fences we build with woven wire include a plain high tensile wire on the top, middle and bottom of the woven wire – this is then finished off with either plain or barbed wires above. This may also include an electric wire either by stand-off or on post insulators.

This combination of both woven wires and electric will make the fence more resistant to pressure put on it particularly from cattle as they won’t put their heads through the fence.

Some of the brands that we use include Waratah, Clipex and Whites Wires.

Post and rail fences

Post and rail fencing is often used on horse properties and for front property boundaries and entrances.

This type of fencing can greatly enhance your property, however is more expensive due to the amount of timber and labour involved.

There are many options to choose from, including cypress or hardwood, and varying styles and designs (e.g. post spacing, number of rails). We can work with you to design a fence that suits your property and budget.
