Hay baling

Whether it is for your own on-farm use or to sell, there is no substitute for quality hay.

Hay can be done poorly, or it can be done well. It’s not simply a case of having the right machinery – it’s about the skills of the person operating the machinery and carefully timing each stage (cutting, curing, raking and baling) around changing weather conditions.

As your hay contractor, we take our responsibility for delivering a quality product seriously. In fact, we will decline a job if we anticipate a poor return for the client due to the quality of the crop.

As part of our service we undertake moisture monitoring to ensure your hay’s moisture content isn’t too high, which can cause mould – or worse – hay stack fires. We also don’t want it to be too dry as this will compromise feed quality.

We can also provide advice on pasture improvement and renovation to maximise the quality of your hay and your return on investment in years to come.

Timing and areas serviced

The hay season in the Macedon Ranges usually starts in early November, and can continue into December, depending on the conditions. This gives us a short window to complete each hay project.

We cut and bale small square bales in Kyneton, Woodend, Drummond, Green Hill, Langley, Pipers Creek, Carlsruhe, Tylden, Ashbourne, Newham, Cobaw, Lancefield, Romsey, Gisborne and Riddells Creek.

There must be wide enough access to each paddock for our machinery, and they must be clean with no rocks (or with any rocks clearly identified so that we can work around them).

Quoting your hay job

To quote a job we will conduct a site inspection to ensure it is suitable (appropriate access for machinery, clean paddocks etc) and estimate the number of bales that can be produced. A price per bale will be quoted, and you will be invoiced based on the final output of bales.
